Sister Friend

My sister is planning on serving a LDS mission, and received a call to serve in the England London South Mission.  She leaves on April 3rd.  Only one month before my baby is due.  I have been pretty sad that she won't be here for that and sad that she will be so far away for 18 whole months; but I am so happy and excited for her to go on a mission and admire her for her bravery.  I don't think I could do that!

Yesterday, she went through the temple for the first time.  Despite the fact that we arrived to the temple early, it was so packed that we almost didn't make it into her session.  I explained to a temple worker that my sister was going through for the first time and asked if he thought we would make it into the session.  He replied, "Maybe not, but don't let that stop you."  I was filled with anxiety-I couldn't miss it!  That's my sister!  I held back tears, hoping that we would make it in.  Thankfully, we made it in.  I was so glad to be there.

Last night, I had a dream that she was going to live in London for four years (instead of 18) and I couldn't see her at all for the whole four years.  I was really upset that we would be so far away for so long. I woke up and upon realizing it was just a dream, I was filled with relief.  18 months. That's not so bad.

I will miss her, but I am excited and happy for her to go. Go Mckayli.

Happy Things

  • A week and a half off of work to re-organize my whole house and get ready for baby.
  • Maternity Clothes (Thanks Scott, Becky, Melissa).
  • Scott felt the baby kick for the first time a couple Sundays ago. His face was priceless. A look of shock, surprise, and happiness.
  • Christmas. Still can't sleep through the night on Christmas Eve. Just.too.excited. Up at 6 to have our own little Christmas morning, then we bounce from one family to the next for all the festivities.
  • Presents. I know it's materialistic, but gifts are one of my love-languages. So I love getting and giving them.
  • Trip to California. Lots of Family and Chaos and Cousins and Cute Babies.
  • New Years Party with some friends from the ward. Minute to Win It Games. I was the first to win the Flip-the-Plastic-Cup-Onto-Bottle challenge. Boo-yah. Lots of accidental water spills c/o the Cardons (drinking started early this year...jk.) Left the party early since we're old, married, and pregnant and didn't know if we could make it awake to the New Year...
  • Playing Cards until Midnight (we made it!). (I like playing cards, but Scott doesn't.  However, we got another deck of cards for Christmas, and he has offered to play Nertz with me a few times and we end up playing for hours. I love it. He loves me.)
  • Snuggling with the couches pushed together wrapped in a huge comforter to help Scott feel better (he was way sick last week to the point of delirium. Thanks to our dads for priesthood blessings and healthcare.)
  • Chicken Noodle Soup.
  • Dinner Group.
  • Dessert and Dinner with the Cardons. Love my cute fat baby nieces.
  • Feeling the baby kick hard against my hand on my stomach today. I am getting so excited to meet him.
  • Exactly 4 months until my due date.

Merry Christmas! With Love, The Cardons

Saying Goodbye to 2012-
A year filled with lots of love, blessings, and accomplishments.

Scott graduated from ASU with a BS in Business Communications in May,
and we celebrated our First Anniversary of Marriage with a trip to a sweet resort in Vegas.
In September, Scott got a big-boy job and the same week we found out that we are expecting.
In December, we found out that the baby is a boy,
Megan graduated from ASU with a BA in Communications,
and we celebrated our three-year anniversary of dating at a nice hotel in Scottsdale.

It has been a great year and we're excited for the good things (one especially) to come in 2013!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Love,
The Cardons

December 19th, 2009

Yesterday was the three year anniversary of our very first date and today is the two year anniversary of the day Scott proposed.  It was a pretty busy day yesterday and I didn't get home until six.  Once home, I scarfed down some dinner, started on some work I brought home, and then rushed to get ready for a small gathering we were going to. Other than some nice texts earlier in the day, we didn't have much time to celebrate. But as we got in the car to leave, Scott put in a CD and played our song: Passenger Seat, by Death Cab for Cutie.  I was overwhelmed with beautiful memories and strong feelings.  I can't express how much I love that boy and how grateful I am for him in my life.

For one of my final papers, we had to write about a life-changing experience. I wrote about the night Scott proposed. Choosing to marry Scott was the hardest decision of my life, and it was completely my decision to make. It's funny how now looking back, I wonder why it was such a hard decision.  Wasn't it obvious back then that Scott is perfect for me? But no, it wasn't. It was a really hard decision to make.

I was reading through an old journal the other night and came across this quote by President Gordon B. Hinkley.  It was one of the best pieces of advice I read while trying to make this eternal-life altering decision:

"One of the grand errors we tend to make when we are young is supposing that a person is a bundle of qualities, and we add up the individual's good and bad qualities, like a bookkeeper working on debits and credits.  If the balance is favorable, we may decide to take the jump [into marriage]...The world is full of unhappy men and women who married because...it seemed to be a good investment.  Love, however, is not an investment; it is an adventure.  And when marriage turns out to be as dull and comfortable as a sound investment, the disgruntled party soon turns elsewhere...Ignorant people are always saying, 'I wonder what he sees in her,' not realizing that what he sees in her (and what no one else can see) is the secret essence of love."

I used to feel and think sometimes that no one could really see or understand how we feel, other than us and Heavenly Father.  How fitting then that our sealing covenant is between us three-Scott, Me, and God-the three that really understand and can see the "secret essence of love" that we share.

This post may take the cake on the cheesiest post ever, but I don't care because this is love.

Baby Boy Cardon

Well, now that I'm nearly halfway there, we're going public:
WE ARE HAVING A BABY!

Baby Boy Cardon is due May 7th, 2013 and we are so excited.

Yesterday, we had an ultrasound and found out that we're having a boy.
It was SO cool to see him moving around in there-waving and smiling at us.
I am already in love with him.

Skelo-Baby.  Love Him.

Profile of his head and arm. I wonder what he will look like in real life.

Story of Baby Cardon so far:

We found out we were pregnant in September, the same week that Scott got a job. Miracle.
Scott didn't believe at first, so I took three pregnancy tests.  All positive.

When I took the first test and it came out positive, it was unexpected and overwhelming so I started bawling:  "I can't have a kid-I am a kid!"
But Scott was so sweet and just hugged me and whispered, "You're going to be a mom."

I am still super nervous and have some break downs every once in awhile,
but even if I'm not going to be the best mom, at least that kid will be well-loved by me.
I already love him.
And Scott will be such a good dad.

A few weeks later, I started bleeding.  I thought I had a miscarriage.
I was very sad.  Scott gave me a blessing.
The next day I went to the doctor and found out that I had a large hemorrhage next to the sac.
They were pretty worried.  I had to rest a lot.
My dad adjusted me. (Here's my ad for Chiropractic).
Over the next few weeks, the blood clot began to diminish.
After three months of taking it easy, finally the blood clot was completely gone.

The ultra sound tech said "I'm so glad the blood clot finally went away-it was huge Megan, huge."
Miracle.

Once we found out we're in the clear,
we surprised our families on Halloween with the news that we're having a baby.

I wore a skeleton sweater with a baby skeleton on my stomach.
It was pretty epic.  Scott's family were all so happy for us.
My siblings reactions were priceless.
Brecklyn: "I don't believe you."
But it's true.

Now, I'm 19 weeks along and this baby is healthy and growing great.
I'm growing pretty good too.

"You've Probably Never Heard of It"

Yesterday, after eating delicious homemade donuts and a variety of salads at Scott's cousin's house, we headed over to my parents house for home-made egg rolls.  Sitting around the dinner table, we started talking about my elementary school years, my days as Student Council President in 6th grade, and how I was a weird kid.

Every once in awhile, our school would have Spirit Day-student council would pick the theme and then everyone could come to school dressed up like that theme.  One Spirit Day theme was "The Future."  I remember freaking out about what I would wear (ocd) and my parents sat me down and asked me what I thought people would wear in the future.  Well, I thought for a bit and then decided that time has shown that old trends usually come back.

Sooo, for back to the future day, I came to school wearing a tie-die shirt and some bell bottoms.  And my mom helped me make these cool pocket-holders (an updated version of fanny pack) that attached to my pants for all my futuristic gadgets.  I walked into school and nobody really understood my costume. Leslie Payne showed up wrapped in tin foil and saran wrap.  Everyone loved her costume best.  But in my head, I thought, "Nobody in the future would even wear that."  My costume was realistic.

As I told my story, Scott started making fun of me: "So for future day you dressed up in clothes from the 60s and 70s?"  And then I realized, I was indie-hipster back before it was even a thing.
